Juliet & Romeo

Clean, grassy and with a citrus finish, this is the perfect drink for a hot summer's day.

Juliet & Romeo:
  • 60ml gin
  • 30ml fresh lime juice
  • 30ml sugar (simple) syrup
  • 3 drops of rose water
  • 3 drops of Angostura
  • 3 slices of cucumber
  • 3 sprigs of mint
  • tiny pinch of salt

Garnish:
  • mint leaf
  • 1 drop of rose water
  • 3 drops of Angostura
Muddle cucumber, mint and the pinch of salt. Add the rest of the ingredients and leave to sit for about half a minute. Shake, strain and garnish with the lone mint leaf - place the drop of rose water on the leaf, and the three drops of bitters on the surface of the drink.

A big thank you to Steph at Provedore for her liquid skills.

Where did the name come from?

Wow, that is beautiful. May have to test it out (once the sun sets anyhow, seems a little hedonistic to have one for breakfast...)

Anon - I don't know. I've had a look around online but to no avail. I'm guessing that maybe some of the ingredients appear in the play, but it's been decades since I've read R&J, so I don't know. It was created at Chicago's The Violet Hour and won third place in GQ magazine's 20 best cocktails list.

Kathleen - Breakfast be damned! Have a slurp before you go for your morning run!
